New facility for ABB and its global Operation Center in Ostrava

ABB Operation Center in Ostrava celebrates its 12th anniversary on the European market by moving to new premises in Ostrava city center.

Prague, May 21st 2014 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has today celebrated the opening of new premises for its global Operation Center and celebrates 12 years of service.

The new premises, located in the Czech Republic in Nová Karolina Park in downtown Ostrava, not only accommodates Process Automation and its Operation Center but also other ABB units from the former Na Rovince facility, including service and sales for power systems and sales fo discrete automation and motion as well as the ABB Customer Contact Center. These units moved to the new building in March.

The new location offers better facilities for ABB’s further development in the region with ca. 3,000 m2 of office space and more than 250 m2 for testing, service and training for the ABB University. In compliance with ABB standards the new building is energy efficient, utilizing long-distance heating and cooling.

The Operation Center in Ostrava employs more than 200 people, taking care of engineering for ABB units mainly across Europe, particularly in Norway, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Sweden. Over the past two years, the number of employees at the center has more than doubled. This one-of-a-kind center for Process Automationn Europe offers great opportunities to students of the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, the University of Zilina and other professionals interested in working for a multinational technology company.

Investment in global manufacturing, engineering and service facilities, like those found in Ostrava, have been a long-term priority of ABB. The benefits of such a strategy have been borne out by the success of Czech engineers and the importance of the Ostrava center for European industrial customer segments.

ABB’s Operation Center in Ostrava is particularly engaged in the development of software applications for industry, automation systems programming, information technologies (IT) and IT security, design and commissioning of drives systems, design of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, the design of mechanical machinery and their components, as well as supply chain management and sourcing.

The center boasts many years of experience in engineering and commissioning, offering both a complete portfolio of engineering services and individual solutions for continuous and batch production, from design through to manufacturing. ABB Process Automation division has two such centers in the world, the other is in India.
