ABB Czech Republic’s revenues on a growth path in 2015

Prague, February 3rd, 2016 – ABB in the Czech Republic has announced its 2015 financial results today, reporting revenues of CZK 14 billion, resulting in a successful year for the company and ranking it among the major members within the ABB Group

ABB The company generated CZK 14 billion in revenues in 2015, up by 4 percent from CZK 13.5 billion in 2014. Throughout the year it invested strongly in new manufacturing facilities in order to further maximize growth opportunities in line with ABB’s Next Level strategy and thus better meet customer needs.

Solid manufacturing footprint all over the country
ABB has seven manufacturing plants in the Czech Republic – Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Trutnov and Jablonec nad Nisou – as well as four R&D centers and two large engineering centers (in Ostrava and Pilsen) whose mission is to develop innovative technologies that drive modern society.

It is one of the most admired employers in the country, as testified by its high ranking in the ‘TOP Employers’ Survey, where college and university students elected ABB as the fourth most attractive employer in the ‘automotive & engineering industry’ category. The company has also been recently recognized through a number of awards, such as ranking 10th as Exporter of the Year 2015 as well as the prestigious Czech Business Superbrands 2015, one of 200 exceptionally strong B2B brands in the Czech market.

Introducing the first truly collaborative robot on the Czech market
Thanks to significant investments worth USD 50 million (about CZK 1.3 billion), ABB has expanded its production capacity in the Czech Republic. With their specially-automated lines, new manufacturing facilities for air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear and instrument transformers built in Brno are one of the largest and most-advanced plants of its kind in the world.

In Trutnov, a hub to ABB’s largest engineering center for substation controls and automation in Europe, a completely new green-field manufacturing facility was also constructed. Such investments ensure that the company’s solutions continue to improve the efficiency, productivity and quality of our customers’ operations, maintaining innovation as a driving force at ABB.

Another key milestone of 2015 was the introduction of YuMi®, the world’s first truly collaborative dual-arm industrial robot, in the Czech Republic following its successful market introduction at the Hannover Messe trade fair in April 2015. A key enabler of ABB’s Internet of Things, Services and people, YuMi® is designed for a new era of automation, for example in small parts assembly, where people and robots work side-by-side on the same tasks. By launching YuMi®, ABB has again pushed the limits of robotic automation further and considerably extended the range of industrial processes that can be automated using robots.

A main highlight of 2015 was the production of the 100-millionth set of the Tango® design range of switches and sockets, one of the most popular ranges of home wiring accessories, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in the Czech market.
